[They] suffering misery. But some make a division, so that it becomes τ' ἀλαοί . Aristophanes in Birds [sc. uses it].
Greek Original:
Ταλαοί: τληπαθεῖς. οἱ δὲ διαιροῦσιν, ὥστε εἶναι τ' ἀλαοί. Ἀριστοφάνης Ὄρνισι.
Notes:
From the scholia to Aristophanes, Birds 687 (see web address 1).
This passage is the only attestation in classical literature of ταλαός as an adjective (it occurs as a proper name), so some ancient critic has suggested reading τ' ἀλαοί "and blind" (cf. alpha 1071). Modern editors retain ταλαοί .
