The treasurers held a particular official position at Athens; they were ten in number. These men receive the statue of Athena and the Nikai and the other ornamentation and the money, in the presence of the Council, as Aristotle [says].[1] There are also certain treasurers of the [sc. sacred] triremes, as the same [writer says].[2] Eupolis has shown that the treasurers were also in attendance on the trierarchs.[3]
