Homer,
Odyssey 11.107; there it is a legendary island, home of the cattle and sheep of
Helios. The identification with
Sicily is later, involving other versions of the name (Trinakria, Trinachia) which reflect
Sicily's triangular shape (
τρεῖς, ἄκραι ). See
