Translated headword: admirers
Vetting Status: low
Translation:
"They used to follow him around astonished, some being admirers of his wisdom, some of his beauty, some of his lifestyle, some of his bearing, some of everything at once."
Greek Original:
Θαυμασταί: ἐκπλαγεῖς ἠκολούθουν, οἱ μὲν σοφίας, οἱ δὲ εἴδους, οἱ δὲ διαίτης, οἱ δὲ σχήματος, οἱ δὲ πάντων ὁμοῦ θαυμασταὶ ὄντες.

A close approximation of Philostratos, Life of Apollonios 4.1. The only major departure from the original is that where the Suda says "some... of his wisdom, some of his beauty..." (etc.), Philostratos says "one ... of his wisdom, one of his beauty..."
The headword is nominative plural of the noun θαυμαστής ; cf. the corresponding adjective at theta 73.
cf. epsilon 574.
Keywords: biography; clothing; daily life; dialects, grammar, and etymology; food; gender and sexuality; philosophy; religion
