The headword is a lexicographers' variant of ζευγίσιον , for which see generally LSJ s.v., and esp. ?Aristotle, Ath.Pol. 7.4: ζευγίσιον...τελεῖν (here quantified) as one of the Solonian income-categories in early C6 Athens (iota 525, pi 972). A zeugite is variously understood as a small farmer with a yoke of oxen or else (and more probably) a citizen able to arm himself as a heavy infantryman (hoplite).
