recommended papers on teaching

Academic Job Application
Checklist First of three very useful
pages on the job market: this checklist, advice on job interviews,
and some sample interview questions. Written by an American History
professor but more widely applicable.

and notes for the Advanced Research Colloquium in BC's English department:
how to become a professional humanities scholar. The notes on giving
conference papers are particularly good.

a Good Graduate Student Essay with suggestions for keeping
research on track and maintaining a good relationship with one's advisor

Survival
in the Academy, originally from the computer science department at Indiana.
Although the page no longer seems to be at IU, there's a copy at Cal Tech.

which publishes statistics on the job market in classics every year

Piled Higher and Deeper Comics, a
comic strip about life in graduate school.
