This photo provides a nice overview of the design of the northern side of the stoa (interior corridor/courtyard at right, dining rooms in the center, Doric colonnade at right). The bridge was built in the 5th century B.C. over a stream that issued from the Sacred Spring and flowed to the north towards the Erasinos river. Note the wheel ruts worn into the top of the bridge at right. This tells us that that there must have been a lot of cart traffic from this direction. There bridge seems to have been built before the construction of the stoa. View from the northwest. June 1, 2000.
